WAVES OVERCOME FIRST HALF DEFENSIVE EFFORT BY NINERS
No. 20-ranked Waves Score Twice Late in First, Seal Game
MALIBU, CA-- The 49ers (0-2-0) were able to hold serve with the No. 20-ranked Pepperdine Waves (1-0-1) for much of the first half, before back to back goals by Ali Pavoni (Valencia, CA) in the 35th minute led to a 4-1 victory for the Waves. The 49ers lone goal came at 85:48 as Abie Curry (Chico, CA) dribbled in from about 20 yards out and fired it past goalkeeper Anna Picarelli (Downey, CA). Pepperdine was held without a shot for the first 15 minutes, as Pavoni scored in front of the net at 35:10 before tallying another at 36:03 to give the Waves a 2-0 advantage. At one more midway through the half, LBSU had outshot the ranked Waves 2-1. Pepperdine added two more in the second half from Tasha Spangler, at 46:25, and Lacy Ubaldi, at 59:27. LBSU--0-1--1 (0-2-0)
