NAVY GETS PAST BEACH 2-0 49ers Hold Mids Scoreless in First Half
LONG BEACH, CA-- The 49er womens soccer team (0-1) were able to hold Navy (1-0) scoreless for the first 63 minutes before two goals within the next 10 minutes by the Midshipmen sealed the season opener for both ballclubs.
The Beach defense were able to hold Navy to three shots in the first half, of which two were stopped by goalie Hannah Cochrun (Irvine). Sarah Aguilar (Temecula) led LBSU with four shots, while Allison Wiegand (Modesto) added three shots.
Nadia Skeikh (Canal Winchester, OH) took a cross from the leftside and scored in the 63rd minute to give Navy a 1-0 lead off of passes from Katie Eames (El Cerrito, CA) and Amelia Sheveland (Farmers Branch, TX), before Emma Hagen (Annandale, VA) added one in the 72nd minute to give Navy a 2-0 cushion. Stacy Finley (Alamo, CA) assisted on the second goal.
The Beach head to No. 20-ranked Pepperdine on Sunday, who opened the season at Arizona State on Friday, while Navy travels to CS Northridge.
