July 19, 2002
LONG BEACH, CA-- According to Volleyball Magazine, the Long Beach State men's volleyball team has the most "Fab 50" recruits with seven. Overall the magazine ranks the 49ers with the second-best recruiting class in the nation. The 2003 class includes three top-15 players, including Ted Lyles (No. 9) from Sal Pointe H.S. in Tucson, AZ, Beau Peters (No. 11) from Marina H.S. in Huntington Beach, and Robert Tarr (No. 13) from Rockledge H.S. in Rockledge FL. The magazine feels that "with seven Fab 50 recruits, the 49ers win the volume race. Some felt Peters was the best setter in a class of good ones. Lyles is the most intriguing at 6-8, but Tarr may be the most athletic." Volleyball Magazine ranks the "Fab 50" from first through 50th in order of the impact they are expected to make in college volleyball during the next four seasons.
