Dirtbags, CS Fullerton, Stanford and San Jose State Make Up Regional LONG BEACH, CA-- No. 26-ranked Long Beach State (37-19) will be headed back to Stanford for this years NCAA Regional, joining No. -8 ranked Stanford (40-16), No. 15-ranked CS Fullerton (36-20) and No. 22 San Jose State (45-15). Fullerton and Long Beach State have played each other six times this year (both sweeping at home).
Stanford is the National 8 Seed, and No. 1 seed in the regional. Stanford will play No. 4 seeded CS Fullerton in the first round at 7 p.m. on Friday. LBSU, the No. 2 seed will play No. 3 seeded San Jose State at 3 p.m. in the other first round matchup.
We are as hot as any one in the country, said Head Coach Mike Weathers to his team after the pairings. We have played one of the toughest schedules in the country, so this is nothing new. We have something to prove and it is our job to knock them off.
The Dirtbags have won seven in a row and nine of their last 11. This years field of 64 includes eight opponents, including: USC, CS Northridge, CS Fullerton, Louisiana State, Wichita State, San Diego, Arkansas and Miami (FL). The Beach are making 12th NCAA Regional appearance over the last 14 years. The winner of this regional will play the winner of the Southern California regional, which will feature USC, Brigham Young, Maine and Big West foe CS Northridge.
Last year The Beach headed to Stanford for the NCAA Regional and lost to Texas and Marist. They were the No. 2 seed last year as well.
Other No. 2 seeds include: Central Florida, Notre Dame, CS Northridge, Baylor, Arizona State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Texas Tech, East Carolina, Oklahoma, Southwest Missouri State, Richmond, North Carolina, Florida International, Georgia and Auburn. The National Top Eight Seeds are: Florida State (1), Clemson, Alabama, Rice, Texas, South Carolina, Wake Forest and Stanford.
All session passes for the NCAA Regional at Sunken Diamond will go on sale beginning Tuesday, May 28 (9:00 am, PDT) at the Stanford Ticket Office or by calling 1-800-STANFORD. All session ticket prices are $50 Reserved, $35 Adult General Admission, and $20 Child/Senior/Student General Admission.
