Weaver was the first LBSU pitcher in 147 games to toss a complete game for The Beach. Weaver walked one and struck nine in picking up his second victory in a week. Weaver struck out a career-best 12 on Tuesday against Pepperdine. Jeff Leuenberger was the last 49er to pitch a complete game, when LBSU defeated Nevada, 6-1, on March 17, 2000. It was also the fastest game since Matt Paz pitched a complete game in two hours and five minutes against Texas Tech on February 19, 2000. Today's time was a mere two hour and seven minutes. Long Beach State scored single runs in the second and fourth innings to take a 2-0 lead. Nick Covarrubias scored on a double play ball in the second to make it 1-0 before Brad Davis' RBI double in the fourth made it 2-0. At one point, Weaver retired 12 in a row before Nicholas Sekiya produced a one-out single in the sixth. Weaver extinguished the Tigers first two hits, with double plays to end each of the first two innings. The freshman then proceeded to retire the next 11 in a row, facing the minimum, until the sixth. Tim Gilhooly became the second Tiger to reach second base for the game when he produced a one-out double off the leftfield wall in the seventh. Gilhooly reached third on a fly ball before Adam Alverson struckout to end the threat. The Dirtbags added three unearned runs in the seventh to lead 5-0. After the Tigers committed two errors to begin the seventh, Todd Jennings loaded the bases with a beautiful bunt in front of Pena. Kevin Randel and Nick Orlandos followed with back-to-back RBI groundouts before Jeremy Reed gave The Beach a five-run cushion with an RBI double. Paul McAnulty went 3-for-4 extending his hitting streak to 14 games. Nick Covarrubias also had two hits for the Dirtbags.
