Reed Four Hits, McAnulty Four RBIs, Alvarez 7.0 Innings May 10, 2002 NORTHRIDGE, CA-- The Dirtbags (29-18, 10-6 BWC) broke out of a three-week funk, with a 15-run, 17-hit attack, defeating host No. 15-ranked and first place CS Northridge (35-14, 15-4 BWC) 15-3 in the first game of a three-game series between the two Big West clubs. Jeremy Reed, for only the second time in his career, had four hits, while Paul McAnulty drove in four runs, for the third time this season, and Abe Alvarez became a 10-game winner for the fist time in his career. Reed went 4-for-5 with three RBIs, while McAnulty hit his team-best seventh homer in the first as The Beach went up 3-0. The Beach followed with four more runs in the second, batting around for the first of two times in the game. LBSU went up 9-1 over the first 3.1 innings against Bill Murphy (9-3), who entered the game with a 2.72 ERA before giving up nine runs on 10 hits to raise his ERA to 3.44. Alvarez struck out six in 7.0 strong innings, giving up just three hits and one earned run, to become the Big West's second 10-game winner. LBSU scored five more times in the eighth, batting around, to go up 15-3. Kevin Randel went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, as McAnulty, Chris Wright and Nick Orlandos each had two hits. Starter Todd Jennings played the final three innings at catcher, playing for the first time in five weeks due to a strained MCL.
