Miami Wins Second in a Row, Wins 10-6 April 20, 2002 CORAL GABLES, FL-- The defending National Champions, Miami (20-18), despite a .500 record coming into the series and unranked, took two in a row from No. 13-ranked Dirtbags (24-12), winning Saturday's contest 10-6. Miami pounded out 11 hits and scored 10 runs, seven off of starter Jered Weaver (5-3) to take the victory. Paul Macaluso did go 3-for-5 with three RBIs in the loss, while Joey Pace well in relief, giving up one run on two hits over 3.0 relief innings of Weaver. Kiki Benochea (3-5) pitched a pre-determined 4.0 innings, giving up three runs on six hits for the win. Miami scored four runs in the first, before LBSU scored three in the top of the second to come within 4-3, but Miami scored three more times in the fourth, chasing Weaver from the game after a two-run homer from Javy Rodriguez. The Beach close out the series Sunday at 10 a.m. PDT, before hosting San Diego on Wednesday at 6:05 p.m. at Blair Field. BOX SCORE |
