Senior Goes 3-for-3 Today, 9-for-11 in the Series April 14, 2002 LONG BEACH, CA- Chris Wright went 3-for-3 for the game and 9-for-11 for the series as the No. 14-ranked Dirtbags (23-10, 8-1 BWC) defeated visiting UC Santa Barbara 4-2, winning two out of three from the Gauchos. LBSU has now won eight of their last nine and 16 of their last 20. The Gauchos took a 2-1 lead in the second inning off of RBI singles from Matt Wilkerson and R.J. Smith. The Beach though, came roaring back, tying it in the fourth off of Wright's sacrifice fly before taking the lead in the fifth. LBSU scored twice off of loser Rich Sorenson (0-2), who came in to begin the fifth. Paul McAnulty's sacrifice fly followed by Brad Davis' RBI single gave the Dirtbags a 4-2, more than enough for the Dirtbag pitching staff. Jered Weaver (5-2) pitched the first 5.0 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on eight hits. UCSB starter Matt Moran lasted 4.0 innings, giving up two runs on three hits. Reliever Nate Beucler pitched the final four shutout innings, earning his first career save. The senior righty worked out of a two-out, bases loaded situation in the eighth inning with an inning ending soft liner to short before striking out two in the ninth to preserve the victory. The Beach travel to San Diego this Tuesday before heading East to play Miami (FL) for a three-game series in the Sunshine State.
