Beach Pound Out 36 Hits Over First Two Days March 29, 2002 SACRAMENTO, CA-- Jered Weaver (3-2) pitched seven strong innings in leading No.18-ranked Long Beach State (17-9, 5-0 BWC) to a 7-2 victory over host Saramento State (13-12, 0-2 BWC). The Beach have won 10 of their last 13. Weaver is now 3-0 in his last four starts, tossing 7.0 innings, giving up one run on six hits, walking two and striking out five. Chris Demaria pitched the final two innings, giving up no hits and unearned run. Demaria has now gone 11 outings without allowing an earned run. After defeating the Hornets 16-2 on 23 hits on Thursday, LBSU has now scored 23 runs on 38 hits in the first two games of the series. With three runs in the first inning on Friday, The Beach scored 15 of their 23 runs over a five-inning stretch from the sixth inning on Thursday until the first inning on Friday. With the two wins, the Dirtbags have won seven of nine series this season. Chris Wright and Jeremy Reed each went 3-for-5 today, while Paul McAnulty and Nick Covarrubias added two hits a piece. Back-to-back RBI singles from Jeremy Reed and Todd Jennings led to a 3-0 lead in the first off of loser Marshall Plouffe (3-2). An RBI single in the fourth off of the bat of Nick Orlandos gave LBSU a 4-0 lead. The Dirtbags added single runs in the eighth and ninth innings off of RBI doubles from Chris Wright and Paul McAnulty.
