First Titan Shutout Over Beach Since 1987 March 22, 2002 FULLERTON, CA-- The No. 15-ranked CS Fullerton Titans (14-9) took the first game of the three-game non-conference series, snapping LBSU's eight-game win streak with a 6-0 victory on Friday evening. Fullerton starter Wes Littleton (4-2), entered the game with a 1.71 ERA and scattered just five hits in a complete game shutout. Littleton struck out five and walked just two. It was the first time in 67 games the the Titans have shutout LBSU, when CSF did it twice during the 1987 season. The Titans went up 4-0 after three innings, scoring single runs in the first and second innings and scoring two more in the third. Fullerton scored an unearned run off a Kevin Randel error in the first before an RBI groundout from Justin Smyres made it 2-0. In the third, RBI singles from Richie Burgos and Chris Stringfellow gave The Beach a four-run lead. Eisentrager settled down after the third inning, retiring nine in a row before allowing a leadoff double from Nick Fitzgerald in the seventh.Fitzgerald eventually scored on Shane Costa's double, as Eisentrager was pulled after that with the Titans leading 5-0. Eisentrager (4-2) went 6.1 innings, giving up six runs (four earned) on eight hits to take the loss. The final two games of this series will take place at Goodwin Field on Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. BOX SCORE |
