| Beach Fall in First Round of Hatter Classic Bolla to Play Alma Mater in Consolation Game, 2002 December 6, 2002
DELAND, FL— Head Coach Dallas Bolla's homecoming to her alma mater, was not a pretty one, as the 49ers shot 28% from the field and hit just 2-of-13 from beyond the arc, as Long Beach State (1-4) lost to Morehead State (4-1) 75-47 in the first round of the Stetson Hatter Tournament. Bolla, now in her eighth year, will play her alma mater for the first time, Stetson, in the consolation game at 3 p.m. PST Glory Johnson led The Beach with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Jayme Connors added nine rebounds, but just four points, battling double and triple teams all night. Candice Wilson added eight points, as Wilson along with Christina Mack, Jinga Gosschalk and CeCe Rush played through foul trouble most of the night. Tasha Gales led MSU with 23 points and 10 rebounds, to go along with a 7-of-11 shooting night. MSU extended it to 41-20 on a jumper by Travece Turner with 18:25 left, and went up 51-21 with 10:15 left on a Michelle Gibson three. A Tasha Gales three-pointer made it 72-41 with 3:38 left. Morehead State led from the first bucket, scoring the first six points and never looked back to lead 36-20 at the half. Gales jumper, two of her 16 points in the first half, made it 25-12 with 10:22 left, while Brown's three-pointer upped the ante to 31-16 with six minute left. LBSU shot just 27%, while MSU hit 42%. Head Coach Dallas Bollas, who prepped at Stetson from 1983 to 1986, is still amongst the Hatters all-time leaders in games played (3rd-112), points (2nd-1,457), rebounds (1st-976), scoring average (4th-13.07 ppg), and field goal percentage (7th-47.3). Hofstra defeated Stetson, 71-63, in the other first round matchup.
