Diles Defeats Jerz in Pole Vault
Winter Carnival Completes First Day

December 8, 2001

LONG BEACH, CA-- Tamara Diles of Washinton State vaulted a height of 13'2.25" defeating Long Beach State's Connie Jerz's, who competed unattatched, best of 12'2.5" to highlight the first day of the exhibition Winter Carnival at Long Beach State. The two-day event saw Robin Unger of the Beach Track Club win the Heptathlon with 3293 points, while Isaiah Mustafsa took the lead in the Decathlon with 3462 points.

Other Long Beach State athletes, of note, saw Nina Grubbs finish fourth in the Heptathlon with 2607 points while Ami Goldhammer had 1942 points for sixth place.

In the pole vault, LBSU's Annie Buchanan and Kristin Hambaroff each vaulted a 10'8.75" height, to tie for third place, while Christina Lee's vault of 10'2.75" finished in fifth.

Tomorrow's event at the Jack Rose Track feature the rest of the Decathlon as well as the complete results of the track team's black and gold scrimmage.
