Frank Ramirez returned to Long Beach State as the Director of Sports Performance in January 2022.
Previously, he was the Director of Sports Performance at Biola University from 2016 to 2021, where he was the university's first full-time strength and conditioning coach. At Biola, Ramirez played a key role in transitioning from NAIA to NCAA Division II. His tenure was marked by establishing a state-of-the-art sports performance facility, the mentorship of numerous All-American athletes and MLB draftees, and a significant contribution to the softball team’s runner-up finish at the 2019 D-II National Championship.
Ramirez’s coaching career is diverse, spanning Division I, junior college, and high school levels. From 2010 to 2016, he was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Long Beach State, where he worked with track and field, golf, and water polo. In collaboration with the head strength and conditioning coach, he also helped design training programs for basketball, volleyball, and baseball.
Beyond the collegiate level, Ramirez was the head strength and conditioning coach at Warren High School and La Mirada High School. His efforts at La Mirada were instrumental in the Matadores' 2015 CIF-II State Basketball Championship win.
Ramirez earned a Master of Science degree with an emphasis in Exercise and Human Performance from California Baptist University in 2024. He is also a proud alumnus of Long Beach State University, having graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in exercise science. Ramirez holds certifications as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach with Distinction (RSCC*D) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Before embarking on his career in strength and conditioning, Ramirez was an assistant basketball coach at LA Harbor College from 2007 to 2009 and a former player from 2005 to 2007.
