Katy Johnson joined Long Beach State in July 2025 as an Academic Counselor and Academic Support Assistant.
 
Johnson comes to The Beach after nearly seven years at the University of Missouri, where she most recently served as the Director of Enhanced Learning for Olympic Sports. In that role, she provided academic support to wrestling, softball, and women’s soccer student-athletes while also overseeing the graduate assistant program and managing the department’s testing process for student-athletes.
 
She began her Mizzou tenure in 2018 as a Learning Specialist in the Enhanced Learning Program (ELP), supporting baseball, softball, swimming & diving, women’s soccer, women’s basketball, and wrestling student-athletes. She was promoted to Senior Learning Specialist in 2021 and continued her work with wrestling, softball, and women’s soccer before stepping into her director role in 2023.
 
Prior to Missouri, Johnson gained valuable experience as a post-graduate intern at the University of Memphis (2016–17), where she served as an Assistant Academic Coordinator, and the University of Maryland (2017–18), where she worked as an Assistant Learning Specialist.
 
She is an active member of the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) and currently serves on the leadership team for the Learning Concerns and Enhancement Committee.
 
A native of Coshocton, Ohio, Johnson earned both her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Master of Arts in Education from Baldwin Wallace University. While at BW, she was a member of the inaugural women’s lacrosse team and served as a captain for two years.
