Joey Notch returns to the Long Beach State baseball staff in 2026 for his fifth overall season with the Dirtbags. He moves into the Director of Operations role after serving as an assistant coach in 2025, where he worked with the catchers, served as first base coach, and oversaw the program’s camps.
Notch spent the previous two seasons (2023–24) at El Camino College, where he coached hitters and catchers while serving as the Warriors’ third base coach. In 2023, El Camino captured the South Coast Conference title with a 31-14 record (18-6 in league play) and advanced to the 3C2A Super Regionals. He also guided Cypress College to a CCCAA Super Regionals appearance in 2022.
From 2019–21, Notch was a graduate assistant at Long Beach State, working with the catchers and managing the bullpen during games while completing his master’s degree in public administration. He began his coaching career at El Camino in 2018, helping lead the Warriors to a 28-19 record and a berth in the 3C2A Elite Eight.
In addition to his collegiate experience, Notch has coached in multiple summer leagues. He managed the Palm Springs Collegiate League’s Grizzlies in 2020 and 2021, and also served as an assistant with the Palm Springs Power (2021) and Orange County Pirates (2022).
A former Dirtbag, Notch played at Long Beach State from 2015–17, helping the program reach back-to-back NCAA Tournaments, including a Super Regional appearance in 2017. He earned his degree in consumer affairs in 2017. Prior to LBSU, he played two seasons at El Camino College, where he was a two-time All-Conference catcher and also quarterbacked the football team in 2014.
A native of Torrance, Calif., Notch was a three-sport athlete at West High School, lettering in baseball, football, and wrestling.
