Long Beach State led after the first quarter before Hawai?i pulled away for a 67-44 win
HONOLULU, Hawai'i -- Long Beach State opened the game with confidence but was unable to sustain momentum in a 67-44 loss at Hawai?i on Saturday Night at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
The Beach led after the first quarter, 17-14, shooting over 50 percent from the field in the opening 10 minutes and controlling the early pace. JaQuoia Jones-Brown set the tone offensively, scoring seven points in the first quarter, while the defense forced Hawai?i into difficult looks.
Hawai?i answered in the second quarter by limiting Long Beach State to five points and turning second-chance opportunities and transition baskets into a 32-22 halftime advantage. The Rainbow Wahine took control by converting turnovers and offensive rebounds into an 18-5 scoring edge in the period.
Long Beach State showed resilience coming out of the break, trimming the deficit to as few as one point midway through the third quarter. Jones-Brown continued to lead the charge, attacking the paint and finishing through contact, while Kennan Ka and Morgan Mack added key baskets during a 9-2 run.
Despite the push, Hawai?i closed the third quarter on a strong stretch and carried a 47-34 lead into the final period. The Rainbow Wahine then pulled away in the fourth quarter, shooting over 60 percent in the frame and extending the lead to as many as 23 points.
