Long Beach State Drops Final Home Game To UC San Diego

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State struggled to solve UC San Diego as the Beach dropped an 82-51 decision to the Tritons in the final home game of the 2024-25 season Thursday night at the Walter Pyramid.
The Beach got on the board first with two baskets, but the Tritons went on an 11-0 run to take control of the first quarter. Savannah Tucker stopped UCSD's run, but back-to-back baskets put the Tritons back into a comfortable lead. Jada Crawshaw hit a three-pointer to cut the lead 15-9. A late layup by Mykelle Richards off a pass from JaQuoia Jones-Brown closed the first quarter with the Beach trailing 19-13.
Crawshaw's quick layup put the LBSU within four to start the second. Tucker's three-pointer shortened the lead after back-to-back baskets by the Tritons, making it 23-18. UCSD went on a 6-0 run to take a 13-point lead into the media timeout. The Tritons held the Beach scoreless for four minutes before Jones-Brown hit a jump shot. UCSD answered back to head into halftime with a 42-26 advantage.
The Tritons worked quickly at the start of the third quarter to open a 20-point lead to force a timeout by the Beach. UCSD hit a three for the game's largest lead before Patricia Chung answered with her first three. Crawshaw's back-to-back layups forced a timeout for the Tritons as UC San Diego led 55-37. The Beach played strong defense at the end of the third as Crawshaw hit her second three to close the quarter with LBSU trailing 60-43.
To begin the fourth, Kennan Ka and Chung hit three-pointers to close the Tritons' gap to 65-51. UC San Diego held the Beach scoreless for the rest of the game, using a 17-0 run to open the gap to 31 points and defeat Long Beach State, 82-51.
UCSD (17-14, 9-7 Big West) shot 48.4% from the field (30-of-62) and 38.1% from the three-point line (8-of-21). The Beach was held to 28.4% (19-of-67) shooting from the field and 25.1% (6-of-23) from three-point range. UC San Diego outscored Long Beach State (15-13, 11-8 Big West) in the paint, 38-22.
Crawshaw led LBSU with 16 points, while Chung added 10 points and dished a team-high seven assists. Jones-Brown had a team-high eight rebounds. Four Tritons scored in double-digits, paced by Sumayah Sugapong's 18. Sabrina Ma scored 17, while Parker Montgomery had 14. Kayanna Spriggs posted 13.
LBSU closes the regular season Saturday at Cal Poly (12-16, 6-7 Big West). Tipoff on ESPN+ is 2 p.m.
