Men’s Golf To Make Third Postseason Appearance In Four Years At Chapel Hill Regional

Long Beach State has reached the Regional round in back-to-back seasons under Rob Murray.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Men's Golf makes its second straight appearance in the NCAA Regionals under Rob Murray and the third in four seasons at the Beach, traveling to the East Coast to take part in the Chapel Hill Regional beginning on Monday, May 13. Murray is in his second season at the Beach and has led LBSU to the postseason in both years while also being named Big West Coach of the Year in both seasons as well.
Long Beach State was seeded ninth after winning the Big West Championship, winning by four strokes over Cal State Fullerton with a team score of 850, 14-under par after three rounds at La Quinta Country Club. The Beach went back-to-back for the first time in program history, and the team is making their 11 NCAA postseason appearance and sixth trip to the NCAA Regionals.
Held over three rounds, with one round per day, top seed North Carolina will be the host at Finley Golf Course, located on the campus of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. The action will get started early in the morning, with Long Beach State starting on Monday, May 13 in the first round with a first tee time of 5:25 a.m. PT.
"We're excited to play at Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill," said Murray. "The team has been preparing hard and we look forward to competing against the best in the country. The course has been completely renovated and will provide a great test for the players."
In addition to the Tar Heels and the Beach, the rest of the 13-team field includes Alabama, Georgia Tech, East Tennessee State, Northwestern, Baylor, VCU, LMU, Clemson, Michigan State, Ball State and Howard. 10 individuals will also be playing for their spot at the upcoming NCAA Championship in Carlsbad, Calif.
Long Beach State will run back their lineup from a successful conference championship. Senior Clay Seeber will lead from the front after a tremendous final campaign that saw him earn First Team All-Big West for the second time in his career. Seeber was the individual runner-up at the Big West Championship with a 10-under 202, and has four Top 5 finishes this year, including in back-to-back tournaments at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate and the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate.
Another First Team All-Big West selection will play second in Charlie Forster. The most recent Big West Golfer of the Month winner, Forster finished in the Top 10 at the Big West Championship and led Long Beach State in the three tournaments in the run-up to the championship, Placing in the Top 10 at the Arizona Thunderbird Intercollegiate before coming in as the top scorer for Long Beach State at The Goodwin and the Wyoming Cowboy Classic.
Junior Steen Zeman will play third for Long Beach State. Zeman placed sixth at the Big West Championship, claiming Second Team All-Big West honors after a strong spring. Zeman, in just his second tournament of the year for Long Beach State placed 12th as an individual at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate, claiming his spot in the lineup that he has not relinquished. Zeman shared top honors for LBSU tied with Forster for 7th place in a Top 10 finish at the Arizona Thunderbird Intercollegiate and then finished 3-under par at the Big West Championships.
Honorable Mention All-Big West selection Jaden Huggins will play fourth. A sophomore, Huggins is now a two-time All-Big West selection and has played at all 11 tournaments this season for Long Beach State, with his best finish coming this fall in a Top 5 finish at the Badger Invitational in Wisconsin where he shot a final-round 67 to finish 5-under par in a tie for fourth place.
Sophomore Jack Cantlay rounds out the lineup for Long Beach State. Cantlay tied for second place at the Ram Masters Invitational to kick off the year, opening that tournament with a 66. Cantlay has also played in every tournament this season for the Beach, and comes into the postseason after a two-over par 218 at the Big West Championship, tying for 11th place overall.
