Jada Crawshaw, Savannah Tucker, and Patricia Chung each recorded a double-double in the Beach’s exhibition win

LONG BEACH, Calif. – A strong third quarter allowed Long Beach State to pull away as the Beach went on to defeat Cal State LA, 77-66, in an exhibition contest for both teams on Wednesday night at the Walter Pyramid.

LBSU had a strong defensive night as the Beach picked up nine steals and put up nine blocks to hold the Golden Eagles to a 30.6 field goal percentage.

The Beach had four scorers in double figures, with three of the four recording a double-double. Sophomore forward Jada Crawshaw led the way with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while adding three blocks and two steals.

Joining Crawshaw with a double-double was senior guard Savannah Tucker who recorded 14 points and 10 boards, to go along with a pair of assists, and one block.

Rounding out the trio was senior guard Patricia Chung. She led the Beach with 12 rebounds, while adding 10 points, and four assists.

Graduate transfer Rachel Loobie and freshman guard JaQuoia Jones-Brown narrowly missed double-doubles of their own. Loobie finished the night with 11 points, seven rebounds, four blocks, two steals, and one assist, while Jones-Brown contributed nine boards, seven points, two assists, and one steal.

The game began as a close one throughout the first half. Long Beach State took a 22-18 lead with just over one minute remaining in the first quarter after Crawshaw drained a three. However, the Golden Eagles closed the frame with six-straight points to take a 24-22 lead into the second quarter.

The second quarter was much like the first as the Beach went up 28-26 at 8:12 after a second chance layup from Sonnier. Kennan Ka drained a three to extend the Beach's lead to three (31-28) by 4:42. The Golden Eagles refused to quit as they took a 34-33 lead after back-to-back triples with just over three minutes left. The lead would not last long as the Beach went back on top and took a three-point lead (39-36) into the locker room at halftime.

Long Beach State broke the game open in the third quarter. The Beach outscored the Golden Eagles 21-8 in the frame. LBSU opened up a double-digit advantage after going on a 7-0 run that gave the hosts a 52-40 lead. The Beach led by as many as 18 (60-42) in the third, before taking a 60-44 lead into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, LBSU led by as many as 19 points (70-51) after Ka completed the three-point play. Despite trailing by nearly 20 points, Cal State LA chipped away at the Beach's lead. The Golden Eagles cut Long Beach State's lead down to eight twice, before the Beach came away with the double-digit win, 77-67.

Cal State LA had three players in double-figures. Ashanti Dias led the way with 14, while Lily Buggs added 11, and Olivia Hodges posted 10. Buggs led the team with six rebounds, while adding one assist and one steal.
