Senior Hunter Epson earns first-career Big West Men’s Golfer of the Month honor
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State senior Hunter Epson earned his first-career Big West Men's Golfer of the Month honor after picking up a pair of top five finishes in the month of September, including the individual title at the Nick Watney Invitational.
Epson led the Beach to back-to-back second-place showings at the Husky Invitational and the Nick Watney Invitational, shooting 68 or lower in four of the five rounds in which he played.
In the season-opening Husky Invitational, Epson tied for fifth place as he shot 139 for 5-under par in the weather-shortened two-round tournament.
Epson followed that performance with his first-career individual title at the Nick Watney Invitational. After finding himself in a tie at the top of the leaderboard with BYU's Peter Kuest, Epson sank a birdie on the second sudden death playoff hole for the win.
He finished the tournament shooting 200 for 13-under par becoming just the third player in Long Beach State Men's Golf history to shoot 200 or better over 54 holes. Epson finished the month with a stroke average of 67.8.
Epson and the Beach will be back in action on Monday, Oct. 7 at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational hosted by Cal in Fairfax, Calif.
