LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State Men's Golf has earned the third seed for the upcoming Big West Championship. The first round of the three-day tournament is set to begin on on Sunday April 29th. LBSU is set to compete against top seed UC Davis, defending champion UC Santa Barbara and the rest of the field over three rounds.
The Big West Championship will take place at Industry Hills Golf Club in Industry, Calif. The three-day tournament is set to begin on Sunday, April 29 and conclude on Tuesday, May 1 with one round each day.
Long Beach State enters the Big West Championship following a second-place finish at the UC Santa Barbara Intercollegiate. For the year, LBSU strung together a total of six top five finishes. The Beach looks continue their five tournament streak of top five finishes.
Long Beach State is trying to win its third Big West Conference Championship, which would be the first since 2004. The last 49er to medal in the tournament was Brett Lederer who shot a 204 in 2007.
Joe Fryer, who is coming off a first-place finish at the UC Santa Barbara Intercollegiate, is set to lead Long Beach State in the conference championship. Fryer has medaled in two of his previous five tournaments while matching Daniel Chian for most career wins in school history with three. Fryer also earned Big West Golfer of the Month for the second consecutive month. He has earned this honor three times throughout his career at the Beach.
Men's Golf looks to follow in the footsteps of Women's Golf who recently won the Big West Championship. They are set to compete in San Francisco for the NCAA regionals. With a victory, it would be the first time in school history that both Men's and Women's Golf win the Big West Championship in the same year.
