Long Beach, Calif. - The Beach had to battle the elements and a ranked foe in No. 19 Washington, but neither slowed down the No. 5 team in nation on the way to a 4-1 win over the Huskies. The Beach then swapped out five players but still came out in front 5-0 in a win over Vanguard.
Long Beach State (9-1) sealed the win over the Huskies in the first wave of matches, playing through consistent rain in the first match. Nele Barber and Rachel Nieto held off Courtney Schwan and Destiny Julye, with Nieto finishing with 20 kills in a 21-17, 21-17 win at No. 2. Hannah Matt and Marisa Ramsey won easily at No. 5, 21-14, 21-11, and Zoi Konstantopoulou and Nicci Reinking capitalized on the momentum from a close set one win to seal the match in a 25-23, 21-16 victory.

Kristyna Adamcikova and Hailey Harward moved past Shayne McPherson and Carly DeHoog 21-17, 21-10 to pick up a fourth win against Washington (3-2). The Huskies did steal a point however, taking down Anete Brinke and Sasha Karelov in the top flight 21-17, 18-21, 15-12 and handing the duo their first loss of the season.
Changing the lineup to give some pairs some rest, Mike Campbell subbed in four new players for the team's second dual of the day against Vanguard (1-10). Moving Barber and Nieto up a spot to No. 1, the seniors responded with a dominant 21-12, 21-4 win in what was a theme for the afternoon.
Adamcikova/Harward also had a second win on the day to round out the pairs that had double action, winning 21-8, 21-9 at No. 3. Sasha Karelov dropped a spot and played with Megan Kruidhof, but the pair settled in quickly as Kruidhof had 13 kills and four blocks in a 21-19, 21-13, win over Kelli Dowell and Hannah Holder.
Claire Newlander replaced Hannah Matt at No. 5, playing with Marisa Ramsey as the duo rolled 21-5, 21-5, and Lexi Patterson and Emma Kirst played together once again at No. 4, winning 21-11, 21-13 over Elana Johnson and Karly Cantu of Vanguard.
Long Beach State continues a busy week tomorrow, playing three matches. The day starts at 10 a.m. with an exhibition against Irvine Valley, and then the Beach will stay in Irvine to face Nebraska at 1 and Concordia at 2 p.m.
