Beach Knocked Out In Final Day Of Aloha Invitational

Honolulu, Hawaii - All five matches Saturday between Grand Canyon and Long Beach State went three sets, but unfortunately LBSU lost four of those matches and were eliminated from the dual match play in the Aloha Invitational.
Kobi Pekich and Sammee Thomas earned a win at No. 3, cruising to a 21-9 win over Emilee Erichsen and Brooke Razo in the first set before falling 23-21 in a close second. The Beach threes then won the third set, 15-11 to take the first win for the Beach.
Long Beach State (11-12) won the first set but were undone in three sets in each of the other matches on the day. The closest match came at No. 1, where Nele Barber and Rachel Nieto lost the second set 26-24 before ultimately falling 18-21, 26-24, 15-12 to Mackenzie Phelps and Shannon Dugan of Grand Canyon (18-6).
Jenelle Hudson and Zoi Konstantopoulou lost 14-21, 21-7, 15-13 to Molly Turner at Aleksandra Wachowicz at No. 2, while Ciana Wagner and Mykah Wilson lost 19-21, 21-18, 15-10 at No. 4. In the No. 5 match, Megan Kruidhof and Ciana Wagner fell 18-21, 21-16, 15-10 to Rebecca Conrad and Chloe Jenkins.
Long Beach State will play host to the inaugural Big West Championships next weekend, April 29-30. All six members of the Big West will participate in a double-elimination tournament, held in Huntington Beach in the courts off of Beach Boulevard.
