Beach Volleyball Slips In Loss at No. 4 UCLA

No. 6 Long Beach State got a third crack at No. 4 UCLA, but the Beach was unable to defeat the Bruins, falling 5-0 on the road Wednesday afternoon.
In the first match of the day, UCLA (15-4) grabbed a win at No. 2, as Ivey Schmitt and Kamila Tan held off Jenelle Hudson and Zoi Konstantopoulou of Long Beach State (9-9) 21-12, 21-16.
The Bruins then sealed the match with a pair of wins at No. 1 and No. 4. Nicole and Megan McNamara of the Bruins continued their excellent play, beating Nele Barber and Rachel Nieto of Long Beach State 21-13, 21-8 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
UCLA sealed the win with a victory at No. 4, as Reily Buchler and Zana Muno defeated Ariana Garner and Peyton Grahovac in their first match in the fourth flight this season 21-16, 21-12.
UCLA finished off the match with two more wins, despite being the two closest matches of the day. Izzy Carey and Elise Zappia beat Kobi Pekich and Sammee Thomas 22-20, 21-13 at No. 3, while Julie Consani and Laurel Weaver took the No. 5 match 21-18, 25-23 over Ciana Wagner and Mykah Wilson in a close battle.
Long Beach State will have one more ranked opponent to face next week, as the Beach hosts No. 2 Pepperdine for senior day on Tuesday, April 19 at 1 p.m. at the LBSU Sand Courts.
