Beach Rolls To 4-1 Win Over Nebraska

Long Beach State showed off plenty of determination, winning all three matches that went to three sets in a 4-1 win over Nebraska on Thursday. The Beach won the first three matches of the day to grab the win and move to 3-1 at the LBSU Sand Courts this season.
No. 6 Long Beach State (3-6) opened the day with a pair of wins in the first round of action in a pair of three-set matches. Jenelle Hudson and Zoi Konstantopoulou picked up their second win of the season in the top flight, rebounding from a first-set loss to Kadie Rolfzen and Kelly Hunter to win 19-21, 21-13, 15-10.
Kobi Pekich and Sammee Thomas then spotted the Beach a 2-0 lead, winning 21-13, 14-21, 15-12 at No. 3. Ariana Garner and Peyton Grahovac then finished off the match, returning to the lineup and cruising to a 21-9, 21-17 win at No. 5.
Amber Rolfzen and Justine Wong-Orantes picked up the lone win on the day for Nebraska (6-4) at No. 2, dropping Nele Barber and Rachel Nieto 21-17, 21-18.
Ciana Wagner and Morea Wagner teamed up for the first time this season, and the sister act came through for the Beach at No. 4. Rallying from a first set loss to send the final match Thursday to a third set, the 49er pair found themselves facing match point at 14-12, but rallied for a 17-15 win in the final set over the Huskers' Briana Holman and Kenzi Maloney to pick up a fourth point on the day for Long Beach State.
The Beach is back in action tomorrow with a full day out at the LBSU Sand Courts, as the 49ers host a three-way dual match beginning at 10 a.m. The Beach will host Cal to open the day. The Golden Bears will then play Loyola Marymount in a neutral match following, with a third match of the day featuring the Lions facing off against the Beach. That match is scheduled to begin at approximately 2 p.m.
