FIRST TEE
The Long Beach State men's golf team hosts the 19th Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic, Mar. 2-3, at Virginia Country Club in Long Beach. The two-day, 54-hole tournament is set for Monday, Mar. 2, with first and second round action, followed by final round play concluding on Tuesday, Mar. 3. Monday will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun, while Tuesday will feature tee times starting at 8:30 a.m. from the first and 10th tees. Virginia Country Club will play to a par-70 at 6,562-yards.
DEL WALKER FIELD
LBSU will be among an 11-team field that features UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, Campbell, Denver, Fresno State, CSUN, Nevada, Eastern Michigan, Wichita State and Sacramento State.

LAST YEAR AT VIRGINIA
LBSU finished in fourth-place at last year's Del Walker Intercollegiate at 2-under 838, finishing one-shot behind Arizona and UC Santa Barbara tied for second at 3-under and two strokes behind team champion Minnesota at 4-under. Junior Kevin Lee captured individual medalist with an 8-under 202 to record his first career tournament win. His final round score of 63 tied a course record and marked a career low for the native from La Palma.
ABOUT DEL WALKER
Del Walker served as the men's golf coach at LBSU from 1982-1994 as he previously served as athletic director at Long Beach Poly High School and Long Beach City College. Walker was named Big West Conference Coach of the Year in 1982, 1986 and 1994. During the City of Long Beach centennial celebration in 1988, the Long Beach Press-Telegram named him the city's "Golfer of the Century".
GOYDOS WINS ALLIANZ CHAMPIONSHIP
Former 49er golfer Paul Goydos captured the Champions Tour's Allianz Championship back on Feb. 8 in Boca Raton, Fla., for his second victory in 12 career starts of the 50-and-over tour. Goydos finished with a 12-under 204, for the one-stroke victory of Gene Sauers (-11) and two shots over three players tied for third at 10-under.
NINERS OPEN SPRING SEASON IN UTAH
LBSU kicked off the spring season at the 11th Annual Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational at Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George, Utah. The 49ers completed the two-day, 36-hole tournament in eighth place with an 8-over 584. Senior Kevin Techakanokboon was the top player for the 49ers, tying for 13th at 3-under 141.
49ERS CLOSES OUT FALL SEASON IN STOCKTON
LBSU finished in eighth place at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational to close out the fall season. The 49ers posted a 54-hole score of 12-over-par 864 durin the three-day tournament in Stockton. Kevin Lee led the way for the 49ers, tying for seventh at 2-under 211.
NINERS PLACE 13TH AT BILL CULLUM
The 49ers posted a disappointing 13th place finish at the Bill Cullum Invitational at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, Calif. LBSU completed the two-day, 54-hole tournament at 16-over 880. Junior Daniel Chian led the way for the 49ers, tying for 17th at 1-under 215.
LBSU TAKES THIRD AT NOTRE DAME
The 49ers placed third at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic hosted by Notre Dame at the Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind. LBSU completed the tournament at 26-over 878, finishing just three shots behind third place Ball State (+25). Junior Kevin Lee was the top player for the 49ers finishing in ninth place at 4-over.
49ERS OPEN SEASON AT SAINT MARY'S INVITATIONAL
LBSU opened the 2014-15 campaign at the Saint Mary's Invitational at Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Course in Seaside, Calif. with a seventh-place finish at 22-over-par 886. Senior Kevin Techakanokboon led the way for the 49ers, tying for fourth at 3-under 213, posting a career best finish for the Cerritos, Calif. native.
LBSU ALUM MARK O'MEARA INDUCTED TO WORLD GOLF HALL OF FAME
Former 49er and PGA golfer Mark O'Meara is receiving one of the top honors in the sport, receiving induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame as part of the 2015 class. The 1998 PGA Player of the Year, O'Meara won 16 PGA Tournaments and two majors, capturing both a Masters and British Open championship as part of a lengthy and successful career. An All-American during his time at Long Beach State, O'Meara went on to win the 1979 US Amateur Championship before joining the PGA in 1980. Once he turned pro, O'Meara went on to compete on five Ryder Cup teams, win four European Tour wins as well as his 16 PGA wins, and finished in the Top 5 in all four majors over his career.
FORMER 49ER PAUL GOYDOS WINS PACIFIC LINKS HAWAI'I CHAMPIONSHIP
Former LBSU men's golfer Paul Goydos made a splash in the Champions Tour, winning the Pacific Links Hawai'i Championship in Kapolei, Hawai'I on Sept. 21. Carding a 19-under total over four rounds, Goydos closed out the win with a final round 4-under 68. Hawai'i has been a good spot for Goydos, who had his best finish on the PGA Tour this season also on the islands at the Sony Open, a tournament that he won in 2007. Goydos is a two-time winner on the PGA tour, and was a first-team all-conference selection with the 49ers in 1985, playing at the Beach from 1983-86.
BIG WEST CHAMPIONSHIP HEADS TO THE CENTRAL COAST
The 2015 Big West Conference Men's Golf Championship will be contested at the San Luis Obispo Country Club in San Luis Obispo, Apr. 26-28, hosted by Cal Poly.
