GLENVIEW, Ill. - The Long Beach State men's golf team begins the 2010-2011 season as they travel to the Windon Memorial Classic hosted by Northwestern, Sept. 26-27, at the North Shore County Club in Glenview, Ill. First and second round action is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 26, with a shotgun start at 6:30 a.m. (PST) and final round play concluding on Monday, Sept. 27.
LBSU will be among a 17-team field that includes California, Coastal Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Indiana, Kent State, Marquette, Michigan, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Princeton, Purdue, Tennessee, Tulsa and UC Davis.
The 49ers will be paired with Purdue and Penn State to start the opening round on Sunday morning. Live action can be followed on golfstat.com.
Ryan Ressa will be making his first head coaching appearance as he and juniors Austin Love and Kevin Roy and sophomores Raymond Ho, Benjamin Lein and Kevin Lim will represent the 49ers in their first tournament of the season.
"We're looking to get the season started and the guys are ready to get on the course to play some golf." Ressa said. "It's a strong field as it's good competition for us as there are teams ranked in the top-50. There's UC Davis, which is the best team in our conference this year, where we're competing with the them for the first time this year. And Cal is there where I think they could be a top-10 team. So, there will be some good competition for us right off the bat."
