SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Long Beach State junior Rosa Del Toro and sophomore Brett Hasvold led the 49er cross country teams on Saturday morning at the NCAA West Regional in Springfield, Ore., as the men's team finished in 10th place with 280 points and the women's squad placed 11th, recording 313 points.

The women's team finish was third among schools from the Big West Conference, finishing one point behind UCLA (10th) and 10 points behind Portland (9th). The women finished ahead of 19 other universities from the region, including Arizona State and Oregon State from the Pacific-10 Conference.

The men's squad were the second highest finishing team from the Big West, moving ahead of UC Riverside (second at Big West Championships) and UC Santa Barbara (third at Big West). The 49ers were only eight points from finishing ahead of Big West Champions UC Davis and finished ahead of 15 other schools from the West Region, including Washington State and Arizona.

Del Toro broke the school record in the women's 6,000-meters as she crossed the finish line in 26th with a time of 20:45.51. Her time passed Meredith Kramon's time of 20:52 set in 2007 at the NCAA West Regional at the Stanford Golf Course. Del Toro's finish on Saturday was only 44 seconds off the winning the pace set by NCAA All-American Jordan Hassay of Oregon. It was also a course record, passing Sarah Apgar's time of 21:14 set in 2007.

Junior Alisia Barajas finished second for the 49ers, crossing the line in 47th with a time of 21:10.13. Barajas also eclipsed Apgar's time in 21:10 (47th).

Senior Jennifer Rodriguez finished in 53rd at 21:15.29, just a second behind Apgar's former record, while junior Lenore Moreno placed 91st (21:48.70).

On the men's side, Hasvold covered the 10,000-meter men's course in a time of 30:54.95, placing 38th for the 49ers. Hasvold shattered the LBSU course record by 49 seconds set by Travis Kuhlman in 2007.

Junior Matt Maldonado, running with an ankle injury, finished in 43rd with a time of 31:01.26, passing his previous best of 32:09 from last year's West Regional.

The other top-five runners were Josh Ruff, Heath Reedy and Jared Long, finishing in 31:12, 31:22 and 31:33 respectively.

Six runners outpaced the top finishing time from 2009 on the same course and five runners finished ahead of the previous LBSU course record.
