Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State Head Men's Golf Coach Bill Poutre announced the signing of two new additions for the 2008-09 season, Kevin Roy of Syracuse, N.Y. and Austin Love of Redding, Calif.
"Both Kevin and Austin will have an immediate impact on the program," said Poutre. "Kevin is a proven winner and all-around athlete. He's a great competitor and has the ability to go very low. Austin shows great maturity, commitment and passion for success. Austin will continue to grow as a player as he competes at a high level on a daily basis"
Considered one of the best amateur golfers in the northeast, Roy was named the Syracuse District Junior Player of the Year in 2007 and is currently the second ranked amateur in the Syracuse District. He finished third in the 2007 New York State Junior Amateur and has won four times during the 2007 summer junior golf season.
"Kevin is very athletic and fearless as a competitor and he's just starting to discover his potential." said Poutre.
Love, recently qualified for match play at this year's U.S. Public Links Championship and has participated in two USGA events. He also won the CIF North Section Individual Championship in 2006 and led Foothill High School to the CIF Championship last year.
The 49ers open the fall season on Sept. 5, as they travel to the Gene Miranda Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo.
