DEARBORN, Mich. - Long Beach State alum Paul Goydos qualified for this year's British Open as he won the second North American qualifying section at the Dearborn Country Club.
Goydos recorded a 65-66 as he finished 13-under par as he beat out Michael Letzig by two shots. This will mark Goydos' first start in golf's longest running major championship in this, his 16th year on the PGA Tour.
"This was my number one goal for the year," said Goydos. "If nothing else happened this year, I wanted to play in the British Open. A lot of other good things have happened on top of that, but this really has been my number one goal."
Goydos has played in 17 events this year on the PGA Tour and had his best finish at the The Players Championship in Florida as he fell to Sergio Garcia in a one-hole playoff. Goydos' second best finish came at Crowne Plaza Invitational in Texas where he tied for 10th place.
The British Open begins on July 17, at The Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England.
