SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawai'i -- The Long Beach State men's golf team finds themselves in the middle of the standings after finishing in 15th place in the opening round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Hawai'i. The 49ers finished Wednesday with a one-over-par 289, just 11 shots behind first place Auburn, Arizona and San Diego State.
Individually, Issei Suenaga and JJ Katnik find themselves tied for 30th as they shot a one-under 71 for the day. Karl Katnik completed round one tied for 56th with a one-over 73, followed by Eric Pitcaithley tied for 77th with a two-over 74. Michael Drake is tied for 89th. Overall, there's a three-way tie at the top of the leader board as Jay Moseley (Auburn), Tarquin Macmanus (Arizona) and Johan Carlsson (San Diego State) are six-under 66.
"We played pretty well, we just didn't get a lot out of the round," said 49er Head Coach Bob Livingstone. "All of the guys are pleased of how they're hitting. If we could just make a few puts or breaks, we could get right back in it."
Second round action continues on Thursday at 10 a.m. Pacific time.
