SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Despite enduring a four-hour fog delay, 49er Michael Drake got off to a solid start in the 107th U. S. Amateur on Monday at The Olympic Club in San Francisco.  Drake arrived at the course at 6:30 a.m. for his 7:40 starting time, but fog delayed the start of the tournament for four hours, making for a long morning.
 
Drake ultimately fired a 3-over par 73 on the Lakeside Course, considered the tougher of the two courses being played, and the course that will hold the match play portion of the Championship.  There were only 11 players with better scores than Drake on the Lakeside Course in the first half of the first round.  The highlight of Drake's round was holing a 100-yard sand wedge for an eagle three on the 16th hole.
 
Depending on Tuesday morning fog, Drake will not begin his second round Tuesday until late afternoon, and may not be able to finish his second round until Wednesday morning.
