49ers Travel To Reno LBSU To Compete At Nevada Wolfpack Classic

FIRST TEE: Long Beach State travels to Reno, Nev. for the Nevada Wolfpack Classic hosted by the University of Nevada ... first two rounds will be played on Mon. Oct. 8 and final round action on Tues. Oct. 9 ... both days will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. at the (par 72, 7,100 yards) Wolf Run Golf Club ... there are 19 teams scheduled to play at the Wolfpack Classic: Air Force, Arizona, Arkansas-Little Rock, Boise State, Colorado State, Denver, Hawai'i, Iowa State, Kansas State, Long Beach State, Louisiana-Monore, Nevada, New Mexico State, Northern Colorado, San Diego, UTEP, Utah, Weber State and Wyoming.
GOING TO RENO: The Forty-Niner travel squad to Reno will feature sophomore Michael Drake and Karl Katnik and freshman Ricky Montanez, Issei Suenaga and Eric Pitcaithley.
COACH LIVINGSTONE ON NEVADA TOURNEY: ""We haven't been to Reno's tournament in about seven years, and it is a new course for all of our guys," said 49er Head Coach Bob Livingstone. "So we are going to play an additional practice round before the tournament to help get comfortable with the course. This is a very solid field, so it will be a good test. I am still pleased with our work ethic and attitude; hopefully this will be the event where show some consistency."
LBSU FINISHES IN 10TH AT ADAMS CUP: The 49er men's golf team completed their east coast road trip to Rhode Island, finishing in a tie for 10th place at the 14th annual Adams Cup of Newport/Cleveland Golf Classic as LBSU shot a 306 in the third and final round for a total of 920 at the Newport National Golf Club. Wichita State won the team title with a score of 890, followed by Southern Mississippi at 901.
FORTY-NINERS FINISH ON HIGH NOTE: Individually, sophomore Karl Katnik moved up in the standings from 11th place after day one to finishing tied for seventh place in the tournament after shooting a two-over 74 in the final round with a score of 223 (74-75-76). Freshman Eric Pitcaithley moved up two spots as he finished in a tie for 30th place as he shot a 230 (73-75-74) and sophomore Michael Drake finished tied for 36th place with a 232 (73-81-78). Freshman Ricky Montanez completed the tournament in a tie for 53rd place with a score of 238 (77-80-81) and Issei Suenaga finished tied for 73rd. Chris Gold of Maryland captured the individual title as he shot a one-under in the final round to finish with at 218 (74-73-71).
ABOUT THE HEAD COACH: Bob Livingstone, a 1988 graduate of Long Beach State with a Bachelors Degree in Finance, is entering his 14th year as the Head Coach of the 49er men's golf program. After graduating, Livingstone was hired as the Executive Director of the Southern California PGA's Junior Golf Association. He served in that capacity for six years and upon his departure for Long Beach State his commitment and service were recognized when he received the Bill Bryant Award for "Outstanding and Distinguished Service to Junior Golf". In 2000, he was named Big West Coach of the Year after his team qualified for the NCAA playoffs for the first time in 18 years, and the 2004 team won its first Big West Conference Championship in over 30 years.
