49ers Head To Pacific Northwest Beach Looks To Improve On Last Year's 5th Place Finish

This Week: The Long Beach State men's golf team will hit the road as they head to the Pacific Northwest to compete at the Northwest Collegiate Classic at the Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, OR. Competition begins on Monday with 36 holes and concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday.
The Coach: Bob Livingstone is in his 13th season as the head men's golf coach at Long Beach State. Livingstone was named the 2006 Big West Tri-Coach of the Year.
Livingstone On Northwest Classic: "We are excited about this tournament. I know we are better than our performances thus far this year, and having had two weeks to regroup and work on some things in practice, well, we are certainly expecting a better finish."
Last Year At The Northwest Classic: Last year the 49ers finished in fifth place with an 864. Ryan Wood came in seventh with a 212 (70-6874) and Ryan Panichpakdee tied for 13th with a 216 (71-65-80). Oregon State won the 2005 title with an 850 while UC Irvine came in second (856) and Washington State and Texas-Arlington tied for third at 859. OSU's Vincent Johnson won the event with a school and tournament-ecord 14-under 202.
2006-07 Capsules: Kris Assawapimonporn (Junior, Huntington Beach, CA) Tied for 36th place at the Del Walker Intercollegiate, his first action of the year... shot a 220 (70-75-75)... comes to LBSU from Saddleback JC where he helped lead his team to back-to-back league titles... team finished second in the state in 2005.
Nick Badel (Senior, Lakewood, CA): Tied for 67th place at the Gene Miranda Invitational with a 225 (76-73-76)... tied for 66th place, competing as an individual, at the Del Walker Intercollegiate with a 228 (76-73-79)... played in seven tournaments last year, two as an individual... tied for 16th at the Big West Championships with a 221 (78-71-72).
Michael Drake (Freshman, Riverside, CA): Shot a 222 (76-74-72) in his first collegiate tournament, tying for 49th place at the Gene Miranda Invitational... shot a 221 (78-72-71) at the Del Walker Intercollegiate, tying for 43rd place.
Karl Katnik (Redshirt Freshman, Santa Ana, CA): Had a strong first collegiate tournament, tying for 45th place at the Gene Miranda Invitational with a 221 (74-72-75)... tied for 74th place with a 233 (78-77-78) at the Del Walker Intercollegiate...prepped at Foothill High School... was the Seaview League individual champion in 2004 and 2003... a three-time first team all-league selection... had three top 25 finishes in AJGA Events.
Jeremy Keller (Senior, Las Vegas, NV): Is sitting out this season as a redshirt due to a wrist injury... competed in seven tournaments... tied for third at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational with a 213 (71-73-69)... tied for 30th at the Del Walker Intercollegiate with a 219 (71-76-72).
Brett Lederer (Senior, Lakewood, CA): Has not seen any action this fall due to injury... 2006 second team All-Big West... had three Top 10 finishes... tied for fourth at the Western Intercollegiate with a 141 (70-71)... tied for fifth at the John A. Burns Invitational with a 204 (65-72-67).
Ryan Ritter (Senior, Orange, CA): Competed as an individual at the Del Walker Intercollegiate, tying for 72nd place with a 231 (79-74-78)... competed in five tournaments last year, two as an individual... tied for 35th at the 49er Collegiate Classic with a 232 (75-74-83).
Aaron Slonim (Redshirt Freshman, Las Vegas, NV): Tied for 61st at the Gene Miranda Invitational with a 224 (75-76-73)... tied for 50th at the Del Walker Intercollegiate with a 222 (74-70-78)... prepped at Bonanza High School... a two-time All-State pick in Nevada, as well as a two-time All-City selection in Las Vegas... won the 2004 Nevada State High School Golf Championship... finished fifth at the Nevada State Tournament in 2003 and 2005.
Ryan Wood (Senior, Oceanside, CA): Tied for 37th place at the Gene Miranda Invitational shooting a 220 (70-74-76)... tied for 36th place at the Del Walker Intercollegiate with a 220 (71-72-77)... was a first team All-Big West Conference in 2006... selected to compete at the NCAA West Regionals as an individual... tied for 99th place at Regionals with a 223 (79-74-70)... had three Top 10 finishes on the year... seventh at the Northwest Collegiate Classic with a 212 (70-68-74)... finished fifth at the Callaway Invitational with a 220 (75-70-75).
