LONG BEACH, CA-- Saint Mary's College and Arkansas were named co-champions of the 11th Annual Del Walker Intercollegiate after both shot a three-round score of 856. Both shot a 287 in Friday's third round. The 49er men's golf team finished in 14th place with an 883.

"Well, that was a disappointing tournament," said 49er Head Coach Bob Livingstone. "We didn't play terribly, we just weren't real sharp. It is early in the year and at least we identitified some areas that we can work on. This is a very young team -- four of our starting five are in their first year of college golf -- so they are raw, but they are excited to be playing and are willing to work hard to get better. We still have three tournaments left this fall and we look forward to continuing to improve."

The overall indivdual title came down to a playoff between San Jose State's Aaron Conrad (72-71-69) and San Diego's Joe Panzeri (68-72-72). Both shot a 212, but Conrad shot a two-under 69 in Friday's final round to force the playoff. Conrad won the title with a birdie on the fifth playoff hole.

For Long Beach State, junior Kris Assawapimonporn (70-75-75) and senior Ryan Wood (71-72-77) both tied for 36th place with a seven-over 220. Freshman Michael Drake was right behind them with an eight-over 221 (78-72-71). Even though Drake shot an eight-over par, over the final two rounds he shot a 143, just one shot over par.

The 49ers will next be in action on October 2 & 3 when they compete at the Northwest Collegiate Classic at Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis, Oregon.
