49ers Finish 7th At Western Intercollegiate Lederer Ties For Fourth Place March 28, 2006 SANTA CRUZ, CA-- The Long Beach State men's golf team finished tied for seventh place at the rain-shortened 60th Annual Western Intercollegiate at the Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz. The 49ers shot a 297 in Monday's first round and followed that up with a 296 on Tuesday for a two-day score of 593. The 49ers tied for seventh with UC Santa Barbara. Duke won the team title with a 577 and Stanford came in second with a 579.
The second round of the tournament was postponed due to rain and hail on Monday afternoon, and began at 8 am on Tuesday morning. The third and final round was cancelled.
Individually, Brett Lederer tied for fourth place after shooting a one-over 141 (70-71). Ryan Panichpakdee had a strong round two shooting a 72 and finished tied for 32nd place with a 150 (78-72).Stanford's Rob Grube won the overall individual title with a 138 (68-70).
"I was very pleased with how our guys held it together in the bad weather," said 49er Head Coach Bob Livingstone. "We came out today and stepped up. Brett had a great tournament. He really likes this course. I believe this is his second top five finish here. He really showed a lot of heart in dealing with the bad weather."
Lederer finished in second place at the 2004 Western Intercollegiate as a redshirt freshman shooting a 208 (69-71-68).
