49ers Tied For 9th At Western Intercollegiate
Lederer Tied For Fourth Place
March 27, 2006 SANTA CRUZ, CA-- The Long Beach State men's golf team is tied for ninth place after one round of the 60th Annual Western Intercollegiate at the Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz. The 49ers shot a 297 and are tied with Texas-El Paso. Duke holds the team lead after the first 18 holes after shooting a 284. Stanford and UC Santa Barbara are tied for second at 289.
The second round of the tournament was postponed due to rain and hail on Monday afternoon. The second round will begin on Tuesday morning at 8 am. The tournament has been shortened to 36 holes due to the inclement weather.
Individually, Brett Lederer is tied for fourth place after shooting an even par 70. Duke's Ryan Blaum and Stanford's Rob Grube are tied for first after one round after shooting a two-under-par 68. Ryan Wood is tied for 20th place with a three-over 73.
"Brett really grinded it out in the first round," said 49er Head Coach Bob Livingstone. "It was tough, cold and windy conditions and fourth place in that round was really good. Hopefully this storm will go through tonight and we can finish at least two rounds.
