Livingstone Announces Signing of Montanez and Pitcaithley

LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State Men’s Golf Coach Bob Livingstone today announced the signing of two players to National Letters of Intent, Ricky Montanez (Helendale, CA/Victor Valley High) and Eric Pitcaithley (Pleasanton, CA/Foothill High). Montanez is the 26th-ranked high school senior in California, while Pitcaithley is the fourth-ranked junior golfer in the state.

“I am very pleased with our two recruits,” said head coach Bob Livingstone. “These two guys have both had success in golf at very high levels and are great competitors, as well as being good people. When we put them together with the other young players we already have, it gives us a great nucleus for the program we are trying to build”. (The current 49er freshman class is ranked 6th in the country by Golfstat).

Ricky Montanez is a three year MVP of the Victor Valley High School golf team and recently won the High Desert Amateur Championship at Green Tree GC in Victorville. The Helendale resident is the 26th ranked high school senior in California. Montanez’ top tournament performances include: 13th at the state CIF Championship as a junior, and two top-20 finishes in AJGA tournaments last summer. He also qualified for the Junior World Championship at Torrey Pines, but skipped that event to play in the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, as he was the medalist at the APL Qualifying tournament in Las Vegas.

Eric Pitcaithley is the fourth ranked junior golfer in California for the 2007 high school golf class. He won the AJGA’s CORE Realty Junior Classic and recorded three other top 10 finishes in AJGA events. He is the reigning Northern California Junior Champion and he won the NCPGA Westerfield Junior Championship. His 2006 summer was highlighted by qualifying for the First Tee Championship, a Champions Tour event conducted at the Pebble Beach Golf Links.
