49ers Finish Fifth At Big West Meet
Brett Lederer Ties For Fourth Place

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA - The Long Beach State men's golf team finished in fifth place at the 2005 Big West Conference Men's Golf Championships at Tijeras Creek Golf Course. The 49ers shot a three-round score of 876, shooting 292 in all three rounds. UC Riverside, whcih lost the 2004 title in a playoff to the 49ers, won the league title with an 852. Cal Poly was second at 860 and Idaho and UC Irvine tied for third at 875.

Individually, Brett Lederer tied for fourth place with a three-under-par 213 (73-66-74). Jeremy Keller and Ryan Panichpakdee both tied for 20th place with a 220. Overall, Cal Poly's Travis Bertoni captured the individual title with a nine-under 207. Brandon Hillpot of UC Riverside came in second at 209.

Bertoni was honored as the Big West Player of the Year, J.J. Scurich of Cal Poly was the Freshman of the Year and UC Riverside's Paul Hjulberg was Coach of the Year. Keller was selected second team All-Big West, while Lederer and Panichpakdee both earned Honorable Mention all-league honors.
