Day Two Results At Del Walker

Lamar Wins Del Walker Intercollegiate
49ers Tie For Fifth Place

LONG BEACH, CA-- Lamar continued its hot play on Friday, shooting a 276, to take the team title at the 2005 Del Walker Intercollegiate at the Virginia Country Club. The Cardinals shot a combined 831 (-21) for the tournament to win by 17 strokes over second place Houston (848). The Cardinal entered the week ranked No. 56 in the latest Golfweek rankings. Long Beach State shot a 289 in Friday's final round to tie for fifth place overall with an 868.

Capturing the individual championship was Lamar's Dawie VanDerWalt who shot a nine-under 204 (69-65-70). VanDerWalt finished second at last year's tournament. Gary Woodland of Kansas shot a 69 today and finished second, just one shot behind VanDerWalt, with a 205 (68-68-69). Pablo Acuna of Houston finished third with a seven-under 206.

Leading the way for Long Beach State was Ryan Wood who tied for 10th place overall with an even par 213 (69-72-72). Brett Lederer shot a 70 today and moved up to tie for 26th place with a five-over 218 (74-74-70) and Jeremy Keller tied for 30th with a 219 (71-76-72).

"We played well today," said Head Coach Bob Livingstone. "We just dug a little too big a hole yesterday afternoon. This was a good semester for us, we only finished out of the top five in one event, and have more wins in our Region that we have losses. Now we have a little time to rest, get caught up on school and get ready for Hawaii (Feb. 22-24, 2006)."
