Six Teams Ranked In Top 100 Highlight Tournament Field

LONG BEACH, CA-- The Long Beach State men's golf team will play host to 11 other men's collegiate teams this Thursday and Friday as they host the 10th annual Del Walker Intercollegiate at the Virginia Country Club in Long Beach. Six of the 12 squads are ranked in the Golfweek Top 100 this week, including No. 75-ranked Long Beach State.

Making their way to Southern California this week are (national ranking): Colorado State (#91), Houston (#85), Kansas, Lamar (#56), Nevada (#51), North Texas, San Jose State, Texas-El Paso, Texas-San Antonio, UC Santa Barbara and Washington State (#71).

The top two ranked individuals at the tournament are Nevada's Adam Hagen (#60) and Lamar's Dawie VanDerWalt (#105).

The tournament begins on Thursday at 7 am with 36 holes on the par 71, 6,631 yard course, and then concludes on Friday with 18 holes.

Lamar is the defending champion, winning the 2004 title by three strokes (862) over the University of Denver. The top returning golfers are UTSA sophomore Nick Olivarri who shot a three-under 210 to finish in second place and Lamar's VanDerWalt who finished third with a two-under 211. The 49ers Ryan Panichpakdee and Ryan Wood both tied for 12th place overall after shooting a four-over 217. Long Beach State tied for third place as a team last year, shooting an 866.
