49ers Finish 7th At Del Walker Intercollegiate Bret Lederer Tied For Fifth Place With A 210
November 7, 2003 LONG BEACH, CA-- The Long Beach State men's golf team had a disappointing finish to the 2003 Del Walker Intercollegiate on Friday. The 49ers shot a 300 in the final round and finished tied for seventh place overall with an 870. Heading into the day the 49ers were in first place by two shots over Texas-San Antonio. The 300 was the highest score of the day of any of the 13 squads. UC Riverside won the team title with an 855 after shooting a 280 in the third round. UTSA finished second with an 857.
Individually, the 49er Bret Lederer tied for fifth place with a 210 (65-68-77). Todd Saukkola, competing as an individual for LBSU, finished fourth with a 208 (69-72-67). Lamar's Chris Stroud won the individual title with a 202 (66-65-71), while Brian Six of UCSB came in second at 206 (67-68-71). The 49ers Ryan Wood tied for 26th with a 219 (74-70-74) and senior Torey Edwards tied for 31st with a 220 (75-71-74).
This was the final tournament for the 49ers this fall. They next see action in February at the PING-Arizona Invitational in Tucson, AZ.
