Tayyiba Haneef-Park
- Induction:
- 2008
Tayyiba Haneef-Park will go down in 49er history as one of the greatest two-sport athletes the school has ever seen. Haneef-Park lettered four years on the nationally-prominent women's volleyball team and she also lettered three years in track. Her honors are almost too many to record. Haneef-Park was a first team AVCA All-American in volleyball her senior season in 2001. The 49ers went 33-1 that year, won the Big West title and advanced to the NCAA Championship match. She was a three-time first team All-Big West selection in volleyball. Haneef-Park was a member of the 2004 USA Olympic Team, and helped lead the team to a bronze medal at the 2007 Pan American Games. She is primed to make the 2008 team as well. She ranks sixth all-time with 1,421 career kills and her .388 career hitting percentage is second-best in school history. In track and field, Haneef-Park was a three-time All-American in the high jump (2 outdoor, 1 indoor). She was also All-Big West three times and All-MPSF. Haneef-Park won three Big West Outdoor high jump titles and one indoor (2001, MPSF) title. She finished 6th at the 2000 NCAA Indoor Championships, earning All-America honors. At the NCAA Outdoor Championships she placed 5th in 2001 and 7th in 2000. Haneef-Park also excelled in the classroom as she was named to the Big West Fall All-Academic team four times, the Big West Spring All-Academic team three times and she was a second team All-District 8 All-Academic team pick in 2001. Haneef-Park graduated from Long Beach State in 2001 with a degree in speech communications.
