The first, and certainly an appropriate, representative of fencing in the Hall of Fame, Yassir had a spectaculr four-year career as a 49er compiling a 271-22 overall record in the sabre. He was 134-4 in conference matches and 69-0 his last two seasons. He was a four-time All-American and finished sixth (1984), fourth (1985), fifth (1986) and fourth (1987) at the NCAA Championships. He was a member of the 1985 National Sports Federation Championship sabre team. He moved to London following his time at Long Beach State.
