As an LBSU junior, O'Meara made quite an impression on the golf world in 1987 when he won the U.S., California and Mexican amateur tournaments. O'Meara turned pro in 1980 after earning All-America honors as a 49er. In 1984 he had a spectacular year, logging 15, top-10 finishes on the way to over $460,000 in earnings. He missed winning the Arnold Palmer Award, as the tour's leading money winner, by just over $10,000. O'Meara won the Masters in April, 1998 for his first mjaor and then followed that up with a win at the British Open in July of that same year.
