Kirsty Gerlach

An accomplished gymnast in her native New Zealand, Kirsty Durward was recruited to Long Beach by coach Marion Duncan. Duncan left the program before Kirsty began her carer as a 49er, a career that included four consecutive AIAW silver medals in the vault, a streak that began in 1977 and continued through 1980. In 1977, Kirsty represented New Zealand in the Commonwealth Games and in 1978 she was on the New Zealand world championship team. In 1981, Kirsty married her former Long Beach State coach, Steve Gerlach.
