Jim Schultz

The university water polo coach for 20 years (1960-80), Schultz experienced spectacular success in all aspects of the sport. In 1963, he established the NCAA Championship in water polo. Hosting the event at Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool, the Schultz-coached 49ers finished third. The coach of the 1963 Pan American Games team, Schultz spent many years in NCAA and AAU water polo committees and four years on the U.S. Olympic Committee for the sport. Schultz was also the co-founder and second president of the Southern California swimming and water polo players association.
