Hall of Fame

Jason Giambi
- Induction:
- 1999
Giambi becomes the 11th baseball player in the 49er Hall of Fame, and just the second player from the Dave Snow era, joining teammate Don Barbara, who was inducted in 1998. Giambi earned first-team All-Big West honors at two positions, as a designated hitter in 1990, and as a third baseman in 1991. Giambi finished his career at Long Beach with the second-highest career batting average in Big West history, at .397, behind only Barbara. His .422 batting average in 1990 is among the best single-season performances in Big West history, and ranks third all-time at Long Beach, while his 57 walks in 1991 is still a school record, as is his 116 career walks. Giambi was drafted in the second round by the Athletics in 1992, and has been with the Oakland A’s since 1995. He would later be named the American League MVP in 2001 and earn Comeback Player of the Year in 2005. A part of the CENTURY CLUB'S best moments in the City of Long Beach in February, 2006.
