Henry (Hank) Schofield

The captain of the Long Beach State sailing team for four years (1964-67), in 1967, he was chosen Intercollegiate Sailor of the Year. Schofield was so good he was inducted into the College Sailing Hall of Fame the minute his collegiate career was over. With Schofield at the helm, the 49ers won two North American National Intercollegiate Championship Regattas and finished third in the other two. Since he began sailing competively in 1960, Schofield has won over 20 national or Northern American Championships. Upon his induction, he checked in with 10 first place finishes over 25 years of competing in the Newport to Ensenada Yacht Race, including first to finish in 1982 and first overall in 1970.
