Gunnar Larsson

Larsson was one of a special collection of international athletes to compete at Long Beach State during the Don Gambril regime. He was already a gold medal winner for his native Sweden when he enrolled at Long Beach State, having won a gold medal in the 1968 games in Mexico City. While a 49er, Larsson set a world record in the 400-meter freestyle. In 1972, again swiming for Sweden, Larsson won Olympic gold medals in the 200-meter and 400-meter individual medleys. He was also a world champion in 1973. In 1988, Larsson was a coach for the Swedish Olympic team.
